I keep trying to quest. Honestly, I even got to Val’sharah this morning and helped some Druids that had overslept, but I’ll be honest I’m not really that fussed helping them out when all they’re doing is kipping on the job. I’m a busy Dwarf DAMMIT and last night I managed to get myself a fair way forward with both Skinning and Leatherworking ‘progress’, to the point where I’m now at Stage 2 for most things. In fact, I’ve just finished collecting some Blue Dragonscale from Aszhara Aszuna (WHO KNEW THEY WERE BACK EH?) and I was able to learn that Level 3 recipe I had drop in the Dungeon this week and for a brief, glorious 2 crafts I owned an orange recipe. But now it’s gone yellow again so you win some, you lose some. However, this is progress. 743 Leatherworking I take as a total triumph, and if anyone out there starts complaining you don’t feel like your Professions mean something this time around?

It’s not just the wearables either, thanks to a bit of nosing about in the Dalaran sewers, I discovered a recipe last night that I think is possibly my favourite thing of the Expansion so far.

You buy this with the coins that drop from the PvP dudes downstairs, but I discovered yesterday you can fish up coins too, so for the pacifists in the room, this might be an option. However, more importantly still is what happened this morning when I went and ‘tested’ the drop rates and discovered to my joy that the results from your stomach is as you would expect to find in an animal:

So that’s roughage, bones and stones (Deep Amber is I assume a JC thang) which is EXACTLY what you would find in wild animals, as many swallow rocks to aid digestion. Of course the Blood’s an unexpected bonus and you don’t get that lucky every time, but if you don’t collect the ability, you get nothing. It’s the same as having my shoulders enchanted with the Boon of the Butcher which is available from Honored with the Highmountain Tribe. It is one of seven different reputation-based ‘gathering’ buffs and, depending on your professions choices, is a great secondary gathering method. As a guide?

There’s also been some movement on other ‘vanity’ professions: I dug my first Archaeology solves last night, and am in large approval of changes, which includes a large spade appearing above my head once I’m close to the final dig point:

I’ll be here all week, remember to tip your server.

I assume summat interesting will open up at 800, when I get there I’ll let you know.

Then there’s the vanity/battle pets. Once upon a time I’d have looked for blue quality animals every time but now with the upgrade stones, it is largely irrelevant. I’m just collecting the beasts now and once we have them all? Again, I’ll worry about that when its done.

If it was worth more than five points? Maybe it would get more attention, but as I quest through each zone, I’ll pick up what I see. Talking of which, I need to try and get Val’sharah ‘done’ by Sunday so I can write about it for the paid gig. I will therefore knuckle down tonight. Once I finish the professions quests. BECAUSE YOU KNOW PRIORITIES.

It is very pretty though, I’ll give it that.

  1. First expansion where I kind of wish I wasn’t a raider. There is absolutely no way I’m going to see even a slight majority of what’s out there before I have to buckle down and chain dungeons/world quests in order to be raid ready in two weeks.

I’m so impressed with what they’ve got on rails and what they have tucked into the nooks and crannies of the world.

I think this expansion is going to keep me consistently entertained for a long time.
